The Land

We looked at a good number of properties before finding the one that we now own. The land we were looking for needed to meet a few criteria. We wanted it a little "out in the country" mostly meaning not on a main road. We wanted land with some woods and some open pasture with a good home site. We also wanted a view of the mountains. And the price - of course - had to be "right." Well, the first time we walked our land, it had just about everything we wanted except for the view--or so it seemed. We walked the top of the north ridge and could see the view of the south ridge, which was nice but not spectacular. I remember saying, "I just wish it had a better view." (A few other places we looked at had spectacular, panoramic views but didn't meet some of the other criteria." So... we kept looking. A few months later, we came back for another look. Lo and behold, we realized that it must have been a hazy day when we first came. From the north ridge, there was a beautiful view of the Walker Mountains! (Sorry, the photo does not do it justice! And, the cows in the photo are the previous owners.) And, as the say, "the rest is history." So since March 2007 we have been proud owners of 58 acres (30 acres open and 28 acres wooded mountain side) of land off on Groundhog Lane near Rural Retreat, Virgina.
