The Fence

The most recent project has been getting a fence up to keep animals in and keep critters out. The previous fence was in poor shape and really would only work for the cows pairs that it was meant to hold, so almost all of the old fence was pulled out and the line cleaned up (Weed-wacker special!!)

Starting this May we (ok, mostly Jonathan and a few friends) have spent months (mostly weekends & days off) drilling holes and placing posts. The kids have helped with things by assisting with marking out the fence line and holding the level and things like that ... so it has been quite a family project. Oh... and my job? I've been painting fence posts 'chestnut brown' ("goes on like the color of mud but then dries to the color of chocolate") Luckily, we've had some help with that along the way, too. (College kids are great.. they can babysit AND help at the farm.) And after a long work day out there today, we are getting close to having one section of the fencing done... just a little painting and the wire to go.
