Trixie's kid

So, Trixie finally went into labor. When we bought the goats one of the things that we were told was that Trixie had had triplets the last few times and was a good mother. Well, we all pretty convinced that she had at least triplets maybe quads by the size of her belly. Turns out... she only had a set of twins and I suspect that they were turned wrong. Fortunately, Jonathan happened to be there when she began delivery and noticed a baby was breech (i.e. a foot coming out instead of a nose) and both babies were coming at the same time. (!) Also fortunately, a dear neighbor (who used to raise goats) came to the rescue. She pushed oneof the babies back in and they were delivered than successfully one at time. Unfortunately, the first kid was stillborn. The second, however, is maybe a little small but strong. So far, mom and baby seems to be doing well.

On another note, we attempted to burn a big brush pile from atop the ridge at the house site. We started the fire after it had rained on purpose so as to not have a too fast fire. Unfortunately, it was damp enough that starting the fire took considerable time and effort. Then, once we finally got it started, the skies opened up and it downpoured. (There is a picture of before and during but no pictures of after because the camera got wet and malfunctioned!) I supposed we'll try again sometime!
